Thriving in Health is an innovative collaboration between a consortium of Victorian health services and leading experts in workplace mental health and wellbeing.
Funded through WorkSafe’s WorkWell Mental Health Improvement Fund, Thriving in Health aims to protect and promote the mental health and wellbeing of frontline healthcare workers.
Taking a prevention led approach, Thriving in Health aims to develop and trial four unique initiatives through collaborative partnerships between Victorian health services and subject matter experts:
- education targeted at people leaders to foster psychologically safe work environments, by understanding how to identify and manage psychosocial hazards
- a pilot study to examine the feasibility and acceptability of strategies that enhance job control for nurses
- the development and trial of an evidenced-based model for managing exposure to potentially traumatic events in the workplace
- exploration of innovative workplace design solutions to address how we best prevent mental injury in healthcare workers
A multi-phased approach will underpin each initiative and will include:
- research and consultation with healthcare workers to develop a foundation of evidence
- co-design and development of tailored initiatives that target work-related factors known to increase stress in healthcare workers
- pilot of initiatives in partnering health services
- evaluation and knowledge sharing
